From 2016 to 2021, I owned and operated an art supply and gallery shop in Prince George, BC, where I specialized in high-quality professional art materials and taught workshops throughout British Columbia. I loved helping artists discover new techniques, materials, and confidence in their creative process.

When COVID disrupted global supply chains, many of the professional-grade paints I preferred to use and teach with became difficult, and sometimes impossible, to source. That challenge became a turning point.

I closed my storefront and shifted fully online, beginning a new chapter from my home studio: making paint by hand.

I understood paint deeply from years of working with artists and materials, but until then I had never fully explored creating my own. It took many experiments and adjustments before I developed a binder and formula that performed exactly the way I wanted, rich, luminous, expressive, and enjoyable to paint with. The process fascinated me from the beginning and still does today.

The name Butterfly Forest Paints was inspired by a magical moment in nature. While walking through the forest along the river, I came across a mass of swallowtail butterflies gathered along the shoreline. The colours, movement, and atmosphere felt unforgettable, and the name simply came together from that experience.

Today, I create small-batch handmade paints inspired by seasons, landscapes, plants, wildlife, and themes that spark curiosity and wonder. Every collection is thoughtfully designed to feel special, artistic, and connected to the beauty of the natural world.

Alongside creating paint, I continue to teach workshops and share the joy of creativity with others, something that has always been at the heart of my work.
