Butterfly Forest Paints are made from perfectly (and patiently) refined Northern BC ethically harvested colours and the highest grade of worldly pigments. Every batch is lovingly handmulled in its final process and tested for colour and proper watercolour movement.
Locally and ethically sourced pigments are more limited in quantities and colour varies but our earthly tones are sure to glow and please. It’s like taking a little piece of our wild country with you.
Our worldly pigments include colours you traditionally know; such as cobalts, oxides, alizarin crimson, but we’ve put our special twist on them to bring you new and exciting blends.
Zero filler means the smallest amount of paint goes a long way. Reconstitute with water and you will find supple clean colours that are pure and mix together beautifully. Our professionally formulated binder is a secret sauce with a gum arabic base. Nope no honey folks; we find that is best in our tea.
Our palettes and dot charts are created with perfect colour combos and creatively designed with long term uses in mind or their ability to naturally transition back to the earth with more ease. While we migrate away from plastic enjoy our fun and clever “pie” pans. They actually hold more paint than a half pan are are easier to work with.

Hi. I’m Christina Watts. I’ve been a professional artist for 10 years. I own and operate my own art supply and alternative art academy in Prince George, BC. It was important to me to use the best paints in my classes so people had the best possible experience and success painting.
Throughout the years I had dabbled and tested making my own paints with many many failures…but luckily had some friends like Crystie Tarr (Rendered Earth) whose passion for processing natural pigments and shared knowledge helped. Plus that internal persistent desire to make the best binder formula. With Covid-19 making it difficult to get the previously imported paints I felt it was time to finally create a new Canadian line that rivals top brands.
